What is a Smith Motor?
The Smith Motor is an off-the-shelf motor which has been changed
by a unique patented connection into the largest single-phase induction
motor in the world.
Why use it?
Single-phase motors have not been available to date above fifteen horsepower.
Many power companies will not allow a motor with a high starting current.
How big is it?
The largest Smith Motor in operation is a 40 hp motor near Twin Falls,
Idaho. Smith motors up to 100 hp are economically advantageous.
