The Phalanges and Metacarpals
- There are 14 phalanges on each foot. The 5 metatarsals connect to proximal
phalanges and tarsals.
All phalanges and metatarsals are long bones. The tarsals, calcaneus, and talus are short, or irregular, bones. The joints between tarsals, or midtarsal joints, are gliding joints.
