This program will convert a scene file from puzzle pirates into an XML file for importing into Yohoho Tools.

Scene Files

Puzzle Pirates scene files are stored in the scenes\Ocean.puzzlepirates.com\ directory of the Puzzle Pirates folder. This is usually c:\Program Files\Three Rings Design\Puzzle Pirates\.

You can find the correct scene file for an island by searching in the scene directory for the file containing the text name of the island you are looking for, like "wrasse" or "cnossos". Finding scene files for rooms of buildings or vessels is more difficult; you can search for the room name, like "main hold" or "attic", but there are likely to be many of these. Another way to find scenes is to open the ocean's scene folder and delete most of the scene cache, like all the files with numbers over 1000. Then visit the scene in game. The most recent new scene you visited will be the most recent file in the directory.

The scene files are frequently out of date, you can force Puzzle Pirates to update the scene file by deleting it and then going to the corresponding scene in game.

Offline and Batch Converter

Download and unzip scenetoxml.zip.

Windows users: make a shortcut to scenetoxml.bat in the same directory. Drag and drop files from your scene directory onto "Shortcut to scenetoxml.bat".

Unix users: java -jar scenetoxml.jar [file or files to convert]

Issues

These issues affect un-updated versions of the Official Yohoho Tools.

• Harpsichords, Ships in Bottles, Catacombs of Estates, some Island terain and other "Adventure" and "Treasure" object tiles are not displayed in the official Yohoho Tools.
• Yohoho Tools frequently will not make overview images from files containing the above.

Update for Yohoho Tools that adds Harpsichords, etc.

Update Instructions

1. Install the official version of yohoho tools
2. Download and install emerson's version of yohoho tools. Installing it to the "C:\" directory. (It will end up in c:\program files\three rings design\yohoho tools\ that way). It includes the most recent tiles, replacing those in the official release.

By hand instructions

1. Install the official version of yohoho tools
2. Copy the rsrc\bundles\tiles folder from your Puzzle Pirates installation to the Yohoho Tools installation
3. Open the rsrc\config\resource\editor.properties file in Yohoho Tools with a text editor other than notepad (write.exe works).
4. Open the rsrc\config\resource\manager.properties file in Puzzle Pirates in the same manner.
5. Copy the lines of bundles/tiles... from manager.properties to editor.properties.
6. Save and close editor.properties

  • Uses resource files, yohoho-boot.jar and getdown-dop.jar, copied from the bundles directory of the current production Puzzle Pirates.
  • The editor.properties list of bundles is copied out of the manager.properties of the current production Puzzle Pirates.
  • editor-dop.jar is updated with the entire contents of com\threerings\media\tile directory compiled from the current release of Narya.

• Bug fix: Object priorities are now correct.
• Recommends file name based on scene number and name.
• Doesn't output until parsing is done (necessary for above)
• Generated files are half the size, only contain one copy of the scene. Runs, downloads faster.
• Bug fix: ran in O(n^2) due to bad string indexing, runs in O(n) now. Alpha is now a matter of seconds instead of minutes.
